"Boyhood" Wins Golden Globe Best Drama Motion Picture 2015

Boyhood, a film by Richard Linklater, wins the 2015 Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Motion Picture. What makes this film extraordinary — the making of it took 12 years. Not due to budget, delays, or technical difficulties. Twelve years in the making was intentional. In this movie, Mason (actor Ellar Coltrane) was cast when he was 6 years old. He started doing the movie at age 7. He was 19 when the final scene was shot.

This film is an art and passion.

While watching the movie, I was amazed by how the makeup effects made Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke looked younger, then older. What fascinated me more was the thought of how rigid the casting could have been made to look for actors with credible resemblances to play Mason at different ages. Reading the end credits, actually waiting for the names of the actors who played Mason, I was surprised — only one actor, Ellar Coltrane, played Mason from age 6 to 19. That also means, no makeup effects were applied to Arquette and Hawke to make them look younger or older. Fantastic!

Boyhood receives 2 other awards. Patricia Arquette bags the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Richard Linklater adds to his laurel the Best Director Award in a Motion Picture.

The Golden Globe Awards were given Sunday, 11 January 2015. Since then, film enthusiasts have searched the Google world 2,000,000 plus times.

Below, enjoy the making of Boyhood.
